BIO

MELD's sound can be described as "UniverSOUL." Her music carries a unique quality that derives inspiration from soulful Americana artists such as Lake Street Dive and Tedeschi Trucks, while simultaneously tapping into cinematic, mystical sounds and conscious lyricism - similar to artists such as Ayla Nereo and Trevor Hall. In November 2020, MELD's debut album "Words of the Water" was birthed into the world shortly after the loss of her father, and amidst a global pandemic. Receiving praise from NPR, Forbes, Live for Live Music, The Tennessean, Music Crowns and more, the resiliency of MELD's spirit shone through her music. Mastered by Anthony Thogmartin (EarthCry, Papadosio,) and mixed by Paco Cosette (Sturgill Simpson,) and Michael Esser (Sheryl Crow, Robert Randolph,) the album was sculpted by many talented hands.  Complete with messages of environmental activism and radical self love, the album is tied together with a spoken word meditation featuring Amber Lily, Marya Stark, Katie Buxton, Heather Christie, Shira Elias, Alanna Royale, Maureen Murphy, Jess Nolan, and Erin Boyd of Phantom Vanity.  All earnings from this song are donated to The Ocean Cleanup. A strong believer of using the power of music for philanthropy, MELD has raised funds on tour for environmental charities such as The Ocean Cleanup, Coalition for Clean Air, Oceana and The Sierra Club in the past.

"Words of the Water" is a follow up to MELD's EP "H.U.R.T." (Healing Under Rising Truth,) which received nods from Nylon Mag, BTRToday, and more. In the past, MELD has toured with Ayla Nereo, and shared the stage with Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, The Main Squeeze, Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers, Zoogma, Brothers Past, Maggie Rose, Sicard Hollow and many more. They have played music festivals such as Music On The Mothership Festival In Taos, New Mexico, and Sonic Bloom. In the beginning of 2022, MELD was crowned the winner of "On The Road to Summer Camp" and landed their first official music festival lineup slot at Summer Camp Music Festival.

MELD's sophomore album "Sunrise," is slotted to be released in July of 2025. As of this last year, she has been collaborating in a duo project with Austin Grimm (formerly of Nashville reggae band Roots of A Rebellion,) called "Medicine Moon." Their debut album is set to be recorded in 2025, and released later in the year.

Based in Nashville, MELD's goal is to spread the healing of music as far and wide as possible. A refreshing dose of hope for the weary spirit, take a listen to "Words of the Water" if ever your soul needs watering.

“The Grateful Dead, jam band culture spreads across jazz, folk, country and bluegrass — genres integral to Nashville’s identity. Cross-genre Nashville musician Melanie Dewey, who goes by MELD, draws from each of these genres beautifully.”
