BIO
MELD's sound can be described as "UniverSOUL." A cinematic, soulful experience with a powerful message of healing for our planet. People have likened Melanie Dewey (frontwoman/songwriter,) to a modern day Janis Joplin in spirit, with a soulful voice akin to that of Susan Tedeschi, coupled with the conscious lyricism of artists like Trevor Hall and Rising Appalachia.

MELD's sophomore album "Sunrise" was birthed into the world on 8/8 Lion's Gate, 2025. The album is a tribute to her late father, and is simultaneously a portrait of a man who knows he is about to leave this earth. The album features voice memos of wisdom from her father's final weeks of life woven throughout the recording, and also features guest artists such as Cristina Vane, Austin Grimm, Lady Couch, Sicard Hollow, and Max Ribner. In just the first week of her all-indie release, the album garnered over 20,000 streams and MELD performed on NPR's "Finally Friday," to celebrate the album, alongside a successful and packed out release show at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge in Nashville.

Previously, in November 2020, MELD's debut album "Words of the Water" was birthed into the world. Receiving praise from NPR, Forbes, Live for Live Music, The Tennessean, Music Crowns and more, the resiliency of Melanie's spirit amidst a global pandemic and several losses of close family members (this was when her father, and her aunt passed...) shone through her music and touched hearts everywhere. Mastered by Anthony Thogmartin (EarthCry, Papadosio,) and mixed by Paco Cosette (Sturgill Simpson,) and Michael Esser (Sheryl Crow, Robert Randolph,) the album was sculpted by many talented hands. Complete with messages of environmental activism and radical self love, the album is tied together with a spoken word meditation featuring Amber Lily, Marya Stark, Katie Buxton, Heather Christie, Shira Elias, Alanna Royale, Maureen Murphy, Jess Nolan, and Erin Boyd of Phantom Vanity. All earnings from this song are donated to an ocean cleanup organization.

"Words of the Water" is a follow up to her 2017 EP "H.U.R.T." (Healing Under Rising Truth,) which was produced by Matt Harris (Zoogma,) and received nods from Nylon Mag, BTRToday, No Country for New Nashville, and more - ultimately landing the single on Hype Machine. The "H.U.R.T.'' remix album was released on April 20th, 2018, with collaborations and remixes by Felice, SAER, DanielwiththeBalance, Spaceship Earth, Waterchild, and Batavia. The album's first single “Leaving You Out (Felice Remix)” was premiered on renowned EDM blog, Dancing Astronaut, an article that dubbed MELD’s voice “Full of soul and emotion.”

In the past, MELD has toured with Ayla Nereo, and Zoogma - and shared the stage with Maggie Rose, The Main Squeeze, Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers, Them Vibes, Brothers Past, and many more. She has played music festivals such as Music On The Mothership Festival In Taos, New Mexico, A Lovely Time Fest, and Sonic Bloom. MELD also has played the Wormtown Trading Co. Stage at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Fest, and played Summer Camp Music Festival after winning Nashville's "On The Road To Summer Camp" in 2022.

With a fierce passion for the wellness of Mother Earth, and protecting the environment, MELD works hard to use her music as a platform to support environmentally conscious initiatives whenever she can. In 2018 alone, MELD's "Gaia Getdown '' series in Nashville raised $2000+ for charities such as The Sierra Club, Coalition for Clean Air, Red Cross (benefitting wildfire victims,) Urban Green Lab, and Oceana.

Overall, MELD aims to promote healing, and hopes her music can be a source of relief for anyone who is eperiencing grief of their own. After experiencing what she calls a five year grief portal, starting with the loss of her father, her aunt, her childhood best friend, moving into a brush with mold toxicity in which she lost a large portion of her belongings, all coinciding with a vocal cord hemorrhage in 2024 - Melanie has a newfound appreciation and understanding of the role music and singing can play in our personal and collective/communal healing. In addition to her work with MELD, Melanie launched her company "Voice Temple," in 2025, with the intention of helping others going through grief to not lose sight of their own voice, their purpose, and... to reclaim and hold steady to their truth and identity even amidst the hardest times.

Based in Nashville, MELD's goal is to spread the healing of music and the voice, as far and wide as possible.
